Kicking Off with a Challenge
Ever had one of those weeks where everything happens at once? Week 41 brought the full spectrum: team exams, bustling site visits, adventures in multi-modal transport, and a pivotal first engagement with a brand-new client. The common thread? Growth for our team, our business, and our clients.
Team Development: Lessons from Both Sides of the Lectern
This week, the LCS Project Solutions team dedicated two days to professional development, swapping our usual teaching roles to be delegates at the CITB Temporary Works Coordinator course. It’s no small feat keeping industry knowledge razor-sharp, and we’re delighted to announce both @LeonMaidment and @LeeShirley successfully passed the course, with Leon achieving a perfect 100%. Special thanks to MS Associates for hosting and DamienBrennan for the expert tuition. With a client joining us on the course and everyone passing, it is a testament to collaborative learning and a shared commitment to safety.
Meeting New Clients: Laying Strong Foundations
Midweek saw us navigating the heart of London to meet with our latest client for an all-important briefing session. Our mission? To partner closely with the Principal Designer and client’s agent, shaping a framework that ensures robust, compliant appointments, matching Principal Contractor and specialist trades precisely when needed. We believe early engagement, clear appointments and focused compliance advice are the building blocks for project success. There’s a palpable sense of excitement as we build new relationships and frameworks. We will be sharing more developments as they unfold.
Journeys in Planning — and Re-Planning
The week’s travel log reads like a commuter’s marathon: conventional bike, e-bike, car, ferry, train, and then the tube. That would be enough for most, but a motorway closure meant waving goodbye to three departing trains before we could board one. It was a real-world test of our contingency planning ethos: staying flexible, communicating clearly, and adapting on the fly to keep our commitment to clients, no matter what the roads or railways throw our way.
What Have We Learned? The PDCA Habit
If you’ve followed our updates, you’ll know we put the Plan-Do-Check-Act (PDCA) cycle at the heart of how we operate. This week gave us fresh reminders of its value:
- Plan: Proactive training and meeting prep set a solid foundation.
- Do: Our teams delivered, adapted, and collaborated, both in the classroom and on the road.
- Check: We measured outcomes, reflected on what worked and what surprised us.
- Act: New knowledge and experiences are already feeding into new risk management strategies, service offers, and ways to support clients more effectively.
Our goal? To ensure every experience translates into better results for our clients and meaningful growth for our team.
Mentoring Beyond Boundaries: Inspiring Future Engineers
This week also marked the beginning of our involvement in the Beyond Boundaries mentoring project with the Faculty of Engineering at Bath University fr our third year. We are excited to support students as part of this initiative, dedicated to expanding professional horizons and fostering innovation within the next generation of engineers.
Over To You
Every business week carries its lessons, challenges, and small or large victories. For us, Week 41 was about building on our collective expertise, proving our adaptability in the face of the unexpected, and strengthening in-house and client-facing partnerships.
