Reflections – Week 42

Reflections, Weekly Round Up

The story of our week through the lens of Plan–Do–Check–Act!

Monday – Project planning with the team at New Forest Fencing — always a delight to be with this energetic group of dedicated individuals.  We also took a train journey to carry out a health, safety, and welfare inspection on an inner-city heritage project — the city, the one with the spires!  The day was rounded off by providing guidance and support to several of our retained clients.

Tuesday – Preparation day for an upcoming quarterly management review with a client’s senior leadership team.  Data gathered over the last quarter was reviewed to identify trends and set new objectives for continuous improvement.  We also chaired a client’s senior management review of their Procore system, offering suggestions for measured and staged enhancements — giving their teams time to learn, process, and develop before moving to the next stage. Later, we met with a new client to provide ISO compliance support and practical, business-specific advice (not a templated approach — proportionality if you’re interested!) 🤦‍♂️.  The day ended with a local compliance inspection and a meeting with a fellow consultant to explore potential collaboration.  More on that soon!

Wednesday – An early start for one of the team heading north for a client day, arriving on-site just after sunrise.  A productive day followed with the team on this special heritage project — truly, every visit teaches us something new.  We also carried out CDM-C work with a local authority, helping ensure their PD duties were being properly discharged.  The day finished with a health and safety compliance tour of a heritage asset in our home city of Southampton.

Thursday – After an overnight stay, a short drive led to the next client day — mid-distance from the previous, maximising both client value and team efficiency.  Another exciting and engaging project with a motivated team.  We arranged fire marshal training in the morning, complete with extinguisher practicals through SOS Safety, and manual handling training in the afternoon by our team — both tailored to the site’s specific needs.  We then undertook a compliance tour, engaging directly with workers to resolve improvement opportunities in the moment — health and safety at work in action!  Back at base, we tackled essential administrative tasks and continued to deliver bespoke project planning advice to our clients.

Friday – Our partners at MS Safety Associates hosted a workshop to test and refine our upcoming Building Safety Act 2022 awareness training.  A focused and productive day of review and planning, agreeing on presentation amendments, delivery structure, and supporting materials ahead of rollout.

So, what have we learned?

  1. People matter — engagement with site teams at all levels makes the difference.

  2. Our clients are dedicated and committed to continuous improvement.

  3. Our team is equally dedicated and fully engaged with our clients and processes.

  4. We love what we do!
