Reflections – Week 33

Health & Safety, Reflections, Weekly Round Up

Plan Do Check Act Cycle

PLAN

This week began with a focus on health, safety, and compliance planning for a significant heritage project.  Leon and Lee carried out a joint compliance inspection and outlined a detailed project health and safety strategy, ensuring all standards would be met for both workers and visitors.  Special attention was given to coordinating the team on-site to maintain organisational flow throughout the works, all in the fascinating setting of a heritage property surrounded by wildlife in the park. 🦌

Before visiting other sites, our team also ensured tailored plans were in place to address the unique challenges faced by heritage properties, particularly where modern safety and environmental standards must complement historic building restrictions.

DO

On Tuesday, we undertook compliance inspections at two further heritage sites. Both required a blend of traditional craftsmanship and modern compliance strategies. On one site, we observed the installation of 130m-deep boreholes for a ground source heating system, a striking contrast to the building’s original heating design from over 200 years ago.

The middle of the week involved more site compliance inspections on contemporary builds, alongside providing CDM advice and guidance to several different clients.  We were also involved in developing safe systems of work, gathering training feedback, and supporting compliance checks on a new-build project.

Later in the week, we visited another heritage project of national significance — the Tower of London.  This site presented yet again the challenge of delivering modern safety solutions in a centuries-old environment.

CHECK

Throughout the week, we reviewed outcomes against our compliance checklists and recorded findings to ensure continuous adherence to safety regulations.  For the recently completed Bury Cross Garage project, we issued a supplementary Building Control documentation following the final inspection.

Client feedback, both from site visits and recent training, was captured for review, with insights used to assess the effectiveness of our guidance and identify any areas for refinement.

ACT

We concluded the week by attending a client’s premises to celebrate the successful completion of the First Aid at Work training course by their management and leadership teams, delivered by RGL Group. This recognition of upskilling and best practice reflects our shared commitment to safety and capability-building.

Looking ahead, we will integrate lessons learned from this week, particularly in balancing modern health and safety approaches with the nuanced demands of heritage restoration, into our ongoing planning and client support.

Summary:
A week rich in site visits, inspections, and knowledge sharing , supporting a wide range of projects from modern builds to some of the UK’s most treasured heritage properties.
