Reflections – Week 30

Announcement, Health & Safety, Reflections

This week, the ongoing celebration of Sami’s graduation at the historic City of Bath continues to uplift our team.  Recognising Sami’s dedication and the support of his family invigorates our shared commitment to mentoring, learning, and collective progress.

Before detailing our weekly operations, it’s fitting to mark a significant transition:  We have formally concluded a phase of collaboration with Ascia Construction.  Ascia has now appointed an in-house compliance manager responsible for day-to-day operations and strategic planning.  While we step back from those direct management activities, our support continues, particularly in guiding their ISO compliance.  It’s been a fantastic journey of mutual growth, and we sincerely thank the entire Ascia team, wishing them ongoing success as they move forward.

Here’s how our week unfolded:

  • Plan & Do

    • Facilitated a vital client frame submission for two Lots, with a deadline this week.  Wishing the team the best of luck on the outcome.

    • Contributed to

    • Attended a design team meeting for a heritage project.  With the contractor mobilising for the strip-out phase, we gained insights into ground source heat pumps and the logistics of drilling down to 130m, important learning for future sustainable projects.

    • Advanced our CDM compliance tracking for local authority builds, ensuring ongoing safety and legal compliance.

    • Developed several safe systems of work documents for diverse clients, each presenting its unique challenges, particularly notable for Kira’s inventive contributions.

    • Conducted an initial site visit for a bespoke timber-framed barn project, focusing on early-stage planning and set-up.  The crafted truss frames will be entirely manufactured on-site using a temporary workshop, a great example of adaptive, site-specific engineering.

  • Check

    • Performed scheduled site compliance inspections across several ongoing projects, maintaining standards and highlighting areas for proactive improvement.

    • Carried out a pre-completion inspection at Bury Cross Workshop, where we have acted as employer’s agent throughout the remodelling.  The project posed significant challenges, but thanks to collaborative problem-solving between our team, the client, staff, and the contractor, the finish is impressive.  The excitement is building for A&S to occupy phase 2 in just a couple of weeks.

  • Act / Reflect

    • This week underscored the importance of celebrating success, both individual (like Sami’s degree) and collective (project milestones and problem-solving across our portfolio).

    • Our focus on mentoring continues to influence both internal team development and our partnership approach with clients.

    • The variety and complexity of the week’s activities highlight our commitment to learning, adaptability, and diligent project delivery.

In summary:
What a week it has been!  We balanced celebration with hard work, supported our clients and team through unique project challenges, and continued to apply the ethos of Plan, Do, Check, and Act across all operations.
