Reflection – Week 35

Health & Safety, Reflections, Weekly Round Up

The week began with the August Bank Holiday, a valuable chance for our team to enjoy family time under the sun.  We took advantage of the last of the summer warmth as autumn steadily approaches.  Nature’s markers of seasonal change have been observed; fields have been harvested, flowers are going to seed, and red berries have emerged, all providing food stores for the winter ahead.  These predictable transitions in nature are a powerful reminder of the cycles present both in life and business.

As the LCS Project Solutions team reflects on the summer, at work and at home, we are reminded that everything shall pass!  We are grateful for the connections we have nurtured with client teams, partners, and our own families.  Each opportunity, challenge, and conversation has shaped our growth.  As the seasons shift, we too are preparing for what comes next.  Just as nature gears up for the colder months, we are organising, planning, and learning to ensure resilience and progress.

Our September will begin with a team planning day.  This dedicated time allows us to dive deep into summer’s achievements and challenges, using our Plan-Do-Check-Act ethos, a core principle guiding our continuous improvement and business goals.  We aim to turn the past season’s lessons into actionable steps for the ongoing development of our team and the service we provide.

Weekly Breakdown

Tuesday:
We led an SSSTS Refresher course for one of our partners, ensuring essential site safety training was up to date.  Additionally, we provided project health and safety support for several clients, including projects ranging from heritage restorations to new timber-framed structures, reflecting the breadth of our expertise.  We also progressed the development of our quality assurance workshop, focusing on site inspection and test planning, set for delivery next week.

Wednesday:
Compliance visits were carried out for multiple clients in Hampshire and London, involving diverse project types: refurbishment, heritage, and new build.  This included a comprehensive audit of site use of Procore, giving our client clear insights into current performance gaps and the steps required for continuous service improvement. We also took the opportunity to deliver a toolbox talk on asbestos-containing material awareness, tailored to the client’s current project and site-specific risks.

Thursday:
The day was filled with further compliance visits and inspections, including stops at Portsmouth University and a Primary School in mid-Hampshire.  Reporting from the previous day’s Procore audit continued, ensuring our feedback was documented and actionable.  We also completed vital administrative housekeeping tasks and put the finishing touches on our upcoming quality assurance workshop content.

Friday:
On the final working day of the month, administration was front and centre, wrapping up outstanding tasks and records.  A catch-up coffee with Colin provided space for informal reflection and networking.  We also advanced an exciting new proposition: designing a one-day practical workshop on compliance with the Building Safety Act and Building Safety Regulations, relevant for both high-risk and non-high-risk buildings, a timely topic for our client base.

Reflections & Learnings

This shorter week proved both rewarding and productive, marked by meaningful conversations with client teams and tangible progress on several fronts.  What have we learned in the past week?  The construction and compliance landscape is in constant flux, demanding agility from our entire team.  Like the changing seasons, we must remain adaptable, plan ahead, and stay prepared for upcoming commitments and challenges.  These ongoing lessons will continue to inform our approach as we move into autumn and beyond.
