Reflection 26 – Week 2

Health & Safety, Management Systems, Quality Management, Reflections, Weekly Round Up

This week’s reflection is starting from Friday through to Monday, and good reason!  This has transpired from seeing two posters displayed adjacent to each other on a wall of a Regus shared office space, where Leon and I were based today and were also joined by Sinead for a team catch up.

To the posters that caught my attention and got me thinking!

  • Be strong you never know who you are inspiring!
  • Change your thoughts and you’ll change your world!

For me, the first shows leadership though unseen actions such as empowering a team without noise and fanfare, diligently going about one’s duties with consistent effort and a consistent message, despite what other pressures and challenges may be present.  This dovetails to the second.  This quiet example of leadership ripples through a team and has the effect of encouraging others to explore the way that they think of work and relationships, empowering change in daily reality!

We shall return to this at the end of the reflection!

Friday was a good team day and with much achieved and plans discussed for a online LCS Project Solutions community space, where ideas and resources can be shared, there is even going to be opening at speakers’ corners for guests to contribute by imparting their wisdom and knowledge to the group on a wide variety of subjects.  We also had a ‘Teams’ call with a serving military gentleman, who will be leaving the service in October and is looking to pursue a career in compliance.  We have agreed to offer some work experience opportunities in the coming months.

Thursday saw us in action wrapping up day 2 of a SSSTS training course hosted by our partners MS Associates (Safety) Ltd.  Three recognised faces within the group and we are delighted to share that all successfully completed the 2-day course.  We also assisted a client on the second day of their ISO 9001 & ISO 14001 surveillance audit, this time on site.  A positive site tour and we are looking forward to receiving the final copy of the report.  Surveillance audits are vital as they test via a third party that the requirements of the standard are being met and that the continual improvement as required by the business and the standards is measurable.  Directly following the audit, the Project Manage and I retired to a local café for a coffee and management system development conversation, as he is also our clients Procore champion.  We are assisting by providing guidance in capturing the required information without becoming administration heavy.  We also scheduled in time to continue with the development of an ISO 9001: 2015 Quality Management System framework (phase 1) for a new client.

Wednesday we were in action on the first day of the aforementioned SSSTS course, always a little tentative as the characters of the audience are mostly unknown, and it is the relationship between trainer and the audience that can make or break the course!  We also sat on the opening meeting of day 1 on the ISO surveillance audit and contributed to the discussion by outlining our support role and providing some specific operational control information gathered from our monthly site tours.  Following the meeting, back to continuing the development of the ISO 9001 framework.  Documents are being drafted in Word, and trackers for the specific ISO requirements, such as threats and opportunities register, objectives, climate change adaptations and nonconformity logs are being developed on Monday.com.  Phase 2 will see the framework being developed in preparation for roll out.

Tuesday was dedicated to compliance inspections across two counties; one also involved a safe stary briefing and a knowledge-based quiz at the end of the discussion.  The heavy rain that day did not dampen our enthusiasm to meet the teams and to discuss with them matters that matter to them!

Monday started with a catch up with the New Forest Fencing crew and then to a client for a pre-surveillance audit discussion.  We were also out on site carrying out a health and safety compliance tour and then back to base to assist a client with their SSiP accreditation.

Wow, what a busy reverse week!  Back to those posters:

  • Be strong you never know who you are inspiring!
  • Change your thoughts and you’ll change your world!

If just one person we engaged this week feels empowered, challenging their perceptions or sharing with another, it’s a win.  Empower one weekly? That’s 52 direct in a year.  Activate the ripple, and by Week 52, 1,378 feel the impact.  Awe-inspiring!

Be a good leader, you never know who you are empowering!  Who might you have empowered this week?
