Reflection 26 – Week 6: 💥 Impact Evaluation 💥

Health & Safety, Management Systems, Reflections, Weekly Round Up

This week, dear reader(s),  (if you’ve been following the thread this year), was billed as a week to evaluate the impacts of our actions and ensure continued learning and development.

We think this goal was achieved. What do you think?

Monday – Knowledge Sharing and Capacity Building

We carried out some internal learning by sharing insights from our previous Building Safety Act 2022 courses, how they were delivered, received, and where they made the most impact. The purpose? To upskill our team so others can deliver the course in future.

Colin is the first in line and a most suitable candidate, bringing over 35 years’ experience with the Hampshire Fire Service, from frontline firefighter to Station Commander. His wealth of knowledge and experience adds depth to our training offering.

We also focused on continuing the development of safe systems of work for a client’s group of projects. This collaboration is about creating proportionate, practical systems that support operational teams on the frontline.

Later, we visited a client’s joinery workshop to carry out a health and safety compliance surveillance tour, offering advice on best practice, while also listening carefully to the challenges of producing top‑quality bespoke joinery.

Tuesday – Field Insights and Performance Evaluation

Tuesday was a site tour day and a continuation of our safe systems of work development.

We visited two sites, each with its own unique challenges. Our role was to identify gaps in operational control and assist in mitigating potential negative impacts on both the environment and the surrounding communities.

Wednesday – Training Delivery and Technical Progress

We delivered another Building Safety Act 2022 course. Colin and I had spent Monday updating the content, notably reflecting the transfer of the Building Safety Regulator from the HSE to the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government.

It was a highly engaged, delegate‑led course: participants shared their objectives at the start, and we reviewed these again at the end to ensure learning outcomes were met. Colin observed, made excellent notes, and contributed valuable insights.

We also carried out a health and safety compliance inspection on a Tudor‑period restoration project, an environment full of unique challenges, where heritage requirements must balance with modern safety standards.

Further desktop work continued on developing the safe systems of work for a client’s project group contract, carefully assessing each site’s hazards to ensure proportionate and effective controls.

Finally, following our previous meeting with a client about introducing the ISO 9001 framework, we received their initial feedback and began acting on development opportunities.

Thursday – Collaboration, Organisation and Strategic Planning

Thursday was a blend of PQQ support, administration, and teamwork.
We supported a client on their pre‑qualification submission for new tender opportunities while managing our internal admin. Our regular Teams meeting with Sinead, our vital support assistant (though assistant hardly captures the breadth of her role), kept us on track. Sinead’s organisation, creativity, and positive energy greatly enhance our workflows and impact.

Work also progressed on the ISO 9001 system, with confirmed dates for Stage One and Two audits sharpening our focus on readiness.

Later in the day, we decamped to a Regus coworking space for face‑to‑face March planning, finishing discussions over a well‑earned pizza supper.

Friday – Reflection and Follow‑Through

Friday was an office day for the whole team. We concentrated on closing out the week’s objectives, collecting evidence for a client’s Achilles renewal, and reviewing another client’s health and safety management system.

Not all objectives were fully met, something we’ll reflect on to understand the reasons, review the impact, and learn how to reduce recurrence.

Closing thought – Continuous Growth

It’s been a varied and fulfilling week, with meaningful progress across multiple fronts. The feedback we received, from team members, partners, course delegates, and clients, confirms that this week has indeed been impactful.

We deeply value everyone we interact with, and we’re grateful for the positive influence they have on us.

Looking to next week, our focus remains on continuous improvement, supporting our clients to achieve their objectives while ensuring our own growth is firmly rooted in theirs. Our commitment: to deliver fully, transparently, and with purpose.

One final note, we’ve developed the LCS Community Space, currently hosted on our business Facebook page. Its purpose is simple: to share wisdom among members, built on the Stoic virtues of Courage, Wisdom, Justice, and Temperance. If that resonates, drop us a line and we’ll share the link. Facebook is just our temporary home while we search for a more suitable platform.
